Twins' Facebook Fight Rages On

, recently told portions of their story in a “60 Minutes” interview for CBS. They grew up in affluence in Greenwich, Conn., were varsity rowers at Harvard and competed in the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008. They now live here in San Diego, where they are training for the 2012 London Olympics.

They are as physically striking and imposing as they appeared in the film, “The Social Network, where they were portrayed by one actor, Armie Hammer. They are 6-foot-5 , and their frames are lean and muscular, shaped by years of rowing.

For the interview, they wore hoodies and jeans, and only the variation in the hoodies — one zippered with a Ron Jon Surf Shop emblem, one a pullover with a Quicksilver logo — helped to tell them apart.

As they talked about the Facebook case, no detail was too small to omit, from where they first met Mr. Zuckerberg (the Kirkland House dining room) to the layout of Mr. Zuckerberg’s dorm room, to the content of the e-mails he had sent them after they asked him to do computer programming for a Web site called Harvard Connection. They recited arcane facts about the valuation of private companies and even quoted from the Securities Act of 1934, which they say Facebook violated when it drew up the settlement.

In addition to a bigger payday, the twins say they want a court to reconsider their original claims about Facebook’s founding, pointing to instant messages on the subject sent by Mr. Zuckerberg to various friends. The messages have come to light since the brothers signed the deal. But they say Facebook executives and board members have known about the messages since 2006, and played dirty by concealing them when they negotiated the settlement.

“If you take all those documents, it is a dramatically different picture,” Tyler Winklevoss said.

Facebook declined to comment on the messages. In prior interviews, Mr. Zuckerberg said he had regretted sending some of them.

Facebook Close To Naming Sun Microsystems Campus As New Headquarters

/06/15/behold-the-new-facebook-headquaters/">moved into its 150,000 square foot office space at 1601 South California Ave in Palo Alto, but the rapidly growing company is already itching for a new home. Now we’re hearing from multiple sources that Facebook has chosen the site for its new headquarters: the former Sun Microsystems/Oracle campus in Menlo Park CA, just off the Bayfront Expressway at 1601 Willow Road (map). The campus is around six miles from Facebook’s current home, and is bordered by Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise. Facebook had practically outgrown its current offices on S. California Ave before it even moved in, and it’s already subleased additional space at 1050 Page Mill Road, just down the street from its current location (employees can take shuttles between the two buildings, but it’s not very convenient). With over 2,000 employees and no signs of slowing, the company needs a lot more leg room.

Facebook says it isn’t a done deal quite yet (actually, they wouldn’t even confirm the location they’re looking at):

“We are exploring options for a long-term location to fit our growing business needs. We are in the due diligence phase on one potential site, but it would be premature to offer any specifics. We hope to have more to share in the near future once things have been finalized.”

Prior to moving to its current home on S. California Ave, Facebook occupied a handful of buildings that littered downtown Palo Alto near University Avenue.  Based on Facebook’s comment it sounds like this new space could become their home for the foreseeable future. Back in 2003 Google had similar rapid growing pains and began subleasing SGI’s office space in Mountain View — it later purchased this land and expanded after its IPO.

The New Facebook Pages Are Here [UPDATED]

1" title=brand-page-new alt="" src="http://cdn.mashable.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/brand-page-new.jpg" width=640 height=523>

Update #2: The push appears to have been accidental. A Facebook spokesperson tells us, “While we are always experimenting with new features internally we are not making changes to Pages right now. Organizations invest a lot of time on their Facebook Pages because millions of people find them useful everyday. We remain committed to providing ways for Page owners to customize and control the experience on their Page. If we do make changes, we will provide partners with advance notice.”

Update: Pages have been reverted back to the old style, and a new tweet from Facebook suggests that the mass transformation may have been unintentional or caused prototype features to get accidentally pushed as well. “Also, some internal prototypes were exposed to people and resulted in us disabling the site briefly. It’s now back to normal,” reads the tweet. We’ve reached out to Facebook for additional clarification.

Facebook ceremoniously launched its new Profile Pages less than two weeks ago. Today, Facebook has gifted Page admins with a similar holiday surprise — a big facelift and feature overall to Pages.

Here’s what’s new: Pages now match Profiles and Place Pages in style and design, there’s a new left-hand menu that has been introduced to replace tab navigation and Facebook Questions have been integrated into the experience.

Facebook has also included a new feature that lets Page admins quickly switch between accounts. The Account menu option in the upper left-hand corner now includes a “Switch Accounts” option, as seen below. Admins can click it to pull up a menu to log in to any of the other Pages they have access to.

Today’s Pages transformation was to be expected, as we initially got wind of the pending changes when the new Profile Pages went live. Still, the unannounced push comes as a bit of a surprise.

Facebook Introduces Facial Recognition for Photo Tagging

Palo Alto, Calif. - Facebook on Thursday announced that it has begun using facial recognition software as a means of increasing the number of photos that are "tagged" with the names of the users they depict. The software will now examine past uploaded photos, and "suggest" names of similar-looking people that it recognizes in newly uploaded photos.

"If for any reason you don't want your name to be suggested, you will be able to disable suggested tags in your Privacy Settings," the company wrote in a blog post.

"Just click 'Customize Settings' and 'Suggest photos of me to friends.' Your name will no longer be suggested in photo tags, though friends can still tag you manually."

Facebook notes that users are currently adding more than 100 million photo tags daily.

In October, the company added "group tagging," where a user could automatically tag the same person in a group of uploaded photos.

comScore: Facebook, Hulu Lost Video Viewers In Nov. Facebook drops spot, Hulu falls out of top ten

Comment Thursday, December 16, 2010 ViewComments By Doug Caverly 2 Buzz This

Facebook and Hulu, while doing fine in many respects, couldn't quite hold online video viewers' interest in November as they've done before.  New stats from comScore indicate that both companies failed to match past performances last month, with Facebook losing a spot on a top ten list and Hulu falling off it.

To delve into the numbers: Facebook saw its unique user count fall from 47.4 million individuals in October to 42.5 million in November, which caused it to drop from fifth place to sixth in terms of attracting unique video viewers.

Hulu, meanwhile, lost its tenth-place spot to Turner Digital, which apparently outperformed it with 27.7 million viewers in November even though Hulu drew in 29.7 million viewers in October.  Although comScore still found that more Hulu ads were viewed in November than the previous month.

If you're curious about some other details, the organization shared in a statement, "Yahoo! Sites captured the #2 spot with 53.8 million viewers, followed by Viacom Digital, jumping 4 positions in October with 52.9 million viewers. . . .  Google Sites had the highest number of viewing sessions, crossing the 2.0 billion mark in October, and average time spent per viewer at 272 minutes, or 4.5 hours."

As always, it should be interesting to see what kinds of turns these numbers take in the next report.
